"There may be trouble ahead". The writing is on the wall for the police and their families.

The imminent departure of the police and their families  It is more or less a racing certainty that partition will soon end, very abruptly, and most people in the North will be culturally and economically impoverished because of political speculation and hidden social crisis in the South. A plague then on both your houses say all democratic socialists and social democrats and Reform Communists. The South has squandered its ill-gotten gains and purloined tax revenues as Tony Blair did in England with the revenue from oil stolen from Arab peoples in the Middle East.. 9.9.2021 Partition has brought much vile çruelty and open hatred of Irish Catholics but we must not be moved to brutality and a thirst for revenge or a misguided hatred of our fellow man. Rather let us tell the source of antagonism, the Orange and Irish Army psychiatrists,to get out and afford them no assistance against the rage and hatred they have created by their bizarre behaviour . Fine Gael

Fine Gael represent big landowners,multi-millionaires and Irish Army officers. Many of those  groups and outlying organisations in the Gardai and civil society are involved in serious crimes of violence and brutality against democrats and socialists. Their spokesmen are a few dog-ends and stragglers who desire "firm measures" against "mongrel foxes". The old head-the-ball, as Liam Cosgrave called rank-and-file republicans. A vote for anyone other than Fianna Fail or Labour is a wasted vote.  A fascist has no good in him be he gay or straight. Fascists' and right-wing legislators believe in committing their flawed jurisprudence to paper and call for firm measures against dissenting voices. We count all the British Government's Irish functionaries in the 1970's as "semi-fascists" and people providing breeding grounds for imperialism.  Fine Gael is the party of Big Business and financial concerns and those interests required strong laws. ... 14.1...

Built-in obsolescence or hitting the ground running?

The question of whether the railways should operate diesel trains or electrify the locomotives is really a non-starter...it is thirty years ago and more since I laid down the basis of the National Development Plan. That document from my pen was entitled the Programme of Irish Socialists. I called for the extension of suburban electric rail to all the suburbs of Dublin, the electrification of inter-city railways and a light railway for Dublin and short-haul buses (the Nipper). What now? Firstly, electrify national railways. Secondly, build the Western Road and Rail Orbital Route to open up the West. Thirdly, things have moved on-it is time for a tramway for Cork City.
