The dire need for public housing in the South is not just a need for improvement in the lives of the low-paid and unemployed,it is a need for a change of direction in government policy in the South. Too much emphasis has been placed on private provision and huge amounts of vulture capital have been attracted to the construction  and rental housing sector in the Republic of Ireland.
