The Irish countryman.Rough, ignorant and unmannerly. Demutualisation of agricultural co-operatives 1988-1992. Change and revolution
You should as a rule not engage with the Irish countryman be he Orange or Green, rural or townie,Northerner or Southerner, unless he has spent a good time abroad or been in regular waged employment.
Here are the reasons.
A typical characteristic of the " hungry small farmer" with less than adequate means of subsistence is his greed for what belongs to others. He is a man set on a path of blind ambition and nepotism. His political fellow traveller is the down-at-heel townie. (The political phenomenon which lies at the heart of understanding both Stalinism and Hitlerism is the opposition or support of the countryman).
Sensible people say to those talking through their hat about involving these rough, ignorant and unmannerly people in trade unionism and socialist politics,"Do you think you are in Russia in the 1930's. Clearly, you do not know what you are talking about. Stop talking nonsense and get a grip on yourself. Farmers are like their animals, full of shit. They'll die with their tongue hanging out because they are dull, ignorant, stupid, senseless people. Everyone with sense knows that elementary fact. It is a basic feature of Irish life."
Say to a farmer,at the risk of getting your nose broken,"You'll never get enough to do you," or," You basically don't want to pay for what you get. Do you think that I get things for free and you have to pay for them."
Farmers responses to a 'townie' wherever you find them should that be your misfortune in life are like their animals, full of piss and wind as the Yorkshireman says (Phil Bailey, Sheffield/ Enniskillen).
....
...Tell people who talk about involving them in politics or trade union activity, "Your head is not properly screwed on at all,"
or,
"Don't involve me in that sort of nonsense. Farmers would be dead if they had the wit to stiffen. Farmers are the road to no town and always will be. They have no more sense than the people of Ancient Ireland. WISE UP!"

If people in politics in the South want PROGRESS,they must deal with farmers' representatives firmly and unequivocally.
Greedy pigs such as Irish farmers in the South were during the market 'liberalisation' madness directly involved in shouting down intelligent people and radical journalists in order to demutualise cooperative agricultural production.
The demutualisation of the 1990's was a manifestation of social breakdown in the countryside and the end of the relationship of class solidarity between worker and farmer. That development was fuelled by the 'hungry' big farmer-type anxious to follow Thatcher's nostrum of "Enrich yourself!"
The Feee State de-mutualisers were led by that Kerry Blue,Pierce Brosnan of Kerry Foods. In 1989 Kerry Foods introduced a plethora of food additives to what RTE cheerfully called the manufacture of "food" (The Irish Socialist, February 1989).
The resulting offal was tripe similar to the products of Dutch, Danish, French, English, Scottish,Welsh, Australian, New Zealand, Canadian, German, East European and American factory-farming.
The culture of chemical-poisoning is an outgrowth of societies which are founded on the adulteration of food and dairy products and the poisoning of consumers with waste products and animal foodstuffs.

The farming class's myopic concerns are the legacy of the Land League failure to address the issue of combination and mutual cooperation.
We say of the ignorant, unmannerly and greedy small farmer and his childish tomfoolery about how little money he receives for his produce,
" Go away and stop annoying ordinary, decent people with your constant whingeing about money. You will never get enough to do you. The days of the small farmer giving orders to the townie are over apart from a few headers in Fianna Fail. The IRA under Michael Collins and the Limerick IRA put a stop to parochialism in this country and it was never to see the light of day again until the 1970's whatever about your fickle dreams and idle imagination. The people who represent your point of view are Fine Gael. "

The bogman, the cute hoor and naive Irishman in this childish idyll of a country, what do we make of them?
The farmers' childish simplicity still haunts the country towns of Ireland which he rapaciously exploited and routinely pillaged with that pair of trusty knaves, the shopkeeper and the publican.
.....
The countryman's reflection in the media in the North
You will hear appeals to the countryman's silly notions and the townie's love of tittle tattle on BBC Radio Ulster between 1.30 p.m. and 3.00 p.m.
If that doesn't make you cringe in your socks, listen in to the silly Southerners on RTE Television or RTE Radio One for more blarney "about goats".
Factory production took away first the farmer's donkey, then his horse and the banks took away his smallholding.

Those displaced from the countryside in the South in the 1960's?
The Irish farmer's son who was displaced from the countryside in the 1960's wanted "factories" to keep his children at home. He realised that if they emigrated,it would be a path to his financial ruin and that he would receive no stipend in his doting seniority.
The country fool could live with the appalling fact that American investment is bought at a price for others in other countries. (American prosperity is won at the cost of the impoverishment of the less developed nations of the earth, the questions of purchasing power parities apart).
....
The Irish big farmer?
He doesn't care a whit about the towndweller as long as he can sit down to his big meal of steak on a Sunday.
That is the reason that political change finally came to the South of Ireland.
Change? The wider dimensions
It came to other Continental countries decades,if not centuries, ago.
I reiterate after Marx, all things must pass. The behemoths of British imperialism and Soviet socialism perished and died, one for geopolitical reasons, the other because it was caught in a social impasse.
....
America and Joe Biden in his dotage now realise the fact that the US must change or reach a Soviet-style political impasse.
....
Just as before the fall of the Soviet Union the talk was of "mature socialism",a socialism free from the basic tenets of agricultural collectivism, industrial organisations, central regulation and in the West the talk was of post-socialism without a minimum standard of legal or political probity, control, regulated banking and without export tariffs, talk has now turned to the state of US government finances and student private debt.
Look at America, American society behind the facade of political indifference, and you will see a corporately regulated society. That is what the Big Corporations want, deregulation ,free markets and intolerance to labour organisations.
....
Post- Fall
The Russians describe the Leninist such as Gorbachev, and Lenin himself as a "a German agent".
America behind the facade is a deeply divided country but for the most part very prosperous and ripe for democratic change. That old canard of mine which I learned from others and Boris Kagarlitsky repeated as a headline act for his penny prose comes to mind,"Parting with illusions".
A focus for change?
The Vatican talks of "overdevelopment".
The alarm bells were sounded in Germany in 1968 by Fritz Schumacher.
A course has been slowly,if imperceptibly, set for profound change in the US.
The obstacles put in place by inflammatory speeches and Cold War rhetoric have been slowly set aside. Russian geopolitics and superpower rivalries have been binned, apart from by a few heads in media concerns.
Everyone knows it and if an American President says it,it must be true.
.....
Russian collectivism?
Proletarian socialism is dead and Democracy Justice and Ol' Lady Law must prevail.

Irish agrarian agitation. Irish modernisation since the 1960's
The dreams of Irish agrarian socialism have been shattered by American dollars, more than enough of them to buy kept men and women in radio and TV broadcasting.
Those green beer types have bought fully paid-up agents such as Carty, Brimstone ("Colm Bryce"), Barrett,Swift,Mc Cartney, Sharkey,Martin and Keegan.
Take note, Irishmen, America didn't come here to lose.
They have displaced native customs and country hospitality.
They did the same in Germany after 1948.
....
Irishmen, bear in mind the FBI ladybird poisoner but reflect on the Russian and Ukrainian bull-whip,a tactic learned from the American.
.....
Let us plough an independent course in international relationships.
Let us tell the rough, ignorant farmer types in our own country who want to pilot a course into the imperialist camp,"Hol' yer whisht!"

Farmers and reaction
A farmer, agricultural labourer, student or recipient of social security is a godsend to the police when there is a national crisis. He is "a willing tool of reactionary intrigue" (Marx,The Communist Manifesto,1847-8).
He can be deployed by the police and security contractor as an unpaid propagandist, security guard or licensed thug to quell dissent and beat up or kill evenhanded and fair-minded tradesmen on his own initiative or in association with armed mobsters like the Black and Tans, bailiffs or contemporary equivalent of the North Cork Militia or Enniskillen Dragoons.

Never take a farmer's side in any dispute. They will be full of false charm to gain your willing attention. They are basically stupid people who think that they can overcome any obstacle on their own.
The farmer is not to be trusted. When he enlists someone as a friend,he inevitably leaves him in the lurch and goes his own way.
The farmer only represents BRUTE FORCE AND IGNORANCE. Have no sympathy with him when his grand designs come unstuck and his dreams of riches fall to ground. He is a prime example of a country fool who thinks and acts only in his own interests.
