Private or public medicine?

 There are countless advantages to public medicine in a general hospital setting. In a psychiatric hospital, everybody is assumed to be "suffering from some illness no doctor could define".  The psychiatric patient in Northern Ireland is assumed to be "mentally ill" and " must do what the doctor says" according to the incestuous reasoning and schizoaffective ideaisation.

The South?

Until the spectre of large-scale psychiatric hospitals fades and doctors' effective powers of arrest are curbed,public medicine in the South is not to be advised by any responsible person.

 Psychiatry can be a blunt "chemical cosh".

 Very serious human rights abuses are occurring in psychiatric institutions yet nobody comes before the courts for these very serious crimes, defamation and brutal terroristic assaults.

If GP care is extended to everyone by the Southern State and doctors adequately remunerated and patients treated as people with rights then it is better to preserve the private- public medicine system. In the South a  pernicious cult of medical euthanasia was only brought to an end by Bertie Ahern of Fianna Fail twenty years ago. It is better to preserve the private doctor-patient relationship intact and keep medicine private and semi-private.

The latter is the only guide to humane treatment which I as an inmate of four asylums can suggest until Asian and European doctors are thrown out of the country.

At the remove of 74 years from the Mother and Child Scheme controversy in the South,it is clear to any normal person that Noel Browne was entirely in the right but that his plans were flouted by a hierarchy who had Yankee imperialist leanings. What they did could have charted a course to the ruin of public health and general well-being for all classes.

1948? The United Kingdom?

 

Spare a thought,just one little thought,for Tory doctors who objected to the National Health Service.

 They stated that public medicine destroys the relationship between doctor and patient.

 Their motive? 

Unvarnished greed and fascistic hatred of the poor but what they hypothesised is ever so true today. The doctors relationship is with the State in the North and with the Gardai and Catholic hierarchy in the South. There is no such thing as ethical guidance of feral rats such as doctors. 

Playing Devil's Advocate... The Catholic Church universally...

The Catholic Church,rarely  openly, puts in place emergency primary and charitable care for the poor. No matter what sort of  maniac you are,you can not get away from the Church's nursing, medical and remedial work. 

Social responsibility in developed countries?

Not everyone likes luxury at the expense of the poor of the Third World.

Medical compassion? 

Almost completely absent wherever in the world you go when money is introduced to the equation. Even Lenin could see you that have to pay a "doctor's bills" and not argue with the nutcase (What is to be Done?,1901-1902).

The Church as medical provider in the West?

Because of the decline in vocations, growing hostility to the Church,agnosticism and heresy, the Church no longer can step into its former role.

The gist of my message?

Free public medicine for all would chart a course for ruin in the South and generally as did the breakdown of smallholding in Rome did (Tertullian,Capital Volumes 1-3,1965-7).

Whatever system of medicine we aspire to,it is my belief that in the interests of justice and respect for others,doctors should have very much less power. 

Money?

Southerners are better paid by about 40-60% to pay for medical care.

 Ironing out problems with medical practitioners requires not so much more scrutiny or in-depth supervision but rather profound social and cultural change. A medical doctor should not be regarded as  God.

Fascism in medicine?

 It is something which should set feet in motion,prepared for a long journey around the circumference of the law and politics.
