Socialist literature. Socialist booksellers. Marx and Lenin.
While Marx and Lenin wrote about contemporary events,it is for Marx's lyrical style and Lenin's brilliant brevity, not the -isms they invented, that they are remembered. Note also the seismic shifts in social thinking that they brought about because of their great capacity for snynopsis and colourful, incisive criticism.
They lived at a time of profound changes in trade, industry and commerce in their respective countries.
One was a literary leader while the other became the father of workers liberation from the shackles of economic servitude and,for women, domestic drudgery.
Literature
One should be suspicious of the booksellers who sell derivative or plagiarised commentaries because the originals are competitively priced. Try International Publishers of New York if you are a thrifty student. The rule is to go back to primary sources- not handed down commentaries or silly nonsense published in England, America,Germany,Sweden or France-for the classics of socialism. Trade union movement-linked publishing houses and booksellers do not produce very much literature. Some of it is very poorly written and nurses glaring contradictions.

Avoid stooges of British Military Intelligence in Bookmarks in London. They are all police officers such as Josh Taylor and Neil Davidson or incoherent bores such as Richard Boyd-Barret,Kevin Wingfield or Eamann Mc Cann who do not need any encouragement to slam down the phone or to raise their voice into a demented roar.

In the words I put in Michael O Riordain's (Chairman,Communist Party of Ireland) of Connolly Books mouth,in the summer of 1988,"I'm trying to run a business here, you Commie bastard,so either buy something or get to fu.. out that door as quick as your little bl... legs can carry you and, while we're at it,get to hell back to the North, you evil murdering c...", ( "What is to Be Done-the Sequel",July-August 1988),or,as he said himself,
"I didn't say that." ( The Judgement, 23 December 1991, public house on corner of Upper Clanbrassil Street/South Circular Road,Dublin).

My assessment of a Russian stooge such as O Riordain
A man who didn't understand hollow French mockery but rather preferred sarcastic innuendo directed at the strong, the old Dutchman's curse and malediction.

The motto of socialist booksellers and publishers is to "buy cheap, sell dear". Many Anglo-Saxon booksellers have driven reputable publishing houses and even printing firms out of business because of this tight-fisted behaviour. A fact.
In the case of Communist publishers funded by the Arts Councils of their respective jurisdiction or the National Endowment for the Humanities, try, ring as often as you like, you will not receive your pre-paid books unless you are good For A Few Dollars More.
Eventually, they hope, you will get fed up and go away.
That is how the tares is won after the wheat is sifted from the chaff by these "lay priests"(Lenin).
