The uses of literacy

When in Dublin,never tell a Garda,that you are "trid a cheile" or he will immediately arrest you for public nuisance. Most of them take you to mean that you are "a Communist" or incendiary poet who stirs up passion in women's hearts,possibly their own wives as well or that you are having an affair with an unmarried woman or girl. In the North,these lazy dogs,idle bar-room bards and little dafties have moved up... Tell them "Stop sniffing or I'll alert Animal Rescue!"...

Phoney and bogus.Irish Irelandism

What is freely ignored by evangelists for the Irish language is that Gaeilgeoiri refuse to speak Irish to non-native speakers unless they are paid or that person is their prisoner or in their care such as in a hospital. Those of us who have been in hospital and are none the worse for that know that native speakers are pretentious bores with very little grip on political reality.

The more you get to know about drunken Dublin Fine Gael housewives and native speakers of Irish, the less you like them and realise that the nationalist cult built up around the Irish language by garrulous nationalists dooms it to extinction as an indigenous language. Why so? Because as James Connolly wrote,these people are what are called Irish Irelanders or what we would call them with the experience of the 1930's behind us ,Blue shirts i.e. fascist sympathisers and police informers on both sides of the border.

The Donegal and Kerry Gaeltacht? Destined for oblivion. Only Con na Mara will remain with a semblance of the Irish language since there are no Irish Irelanders in Galway. Even though Galway people are lazy,they do not play silly parlour games in another language with the exception of Michael D. Higgins and a few spoofers at University College Galway.

Gerry Adams? A circus clown and a frontman for others,all of whom disowned him and his sidekicks years ago. Irish speakers cannot get far enough away from him when he goes to the Donegal Gaeltacht to speak what he considers to be Irish. He ends up talking to other English speakers and British agents.

A pig of a man or woman such as a Dublin Garda or a Northern Protestant with authoritarian convictions will always confront you near water,a lake or a river,since he offers only his "Sacred Word" like John the Baptist or if you prefer,he is a man of straw-we call islanders and river-dwellers men of straw because of their roughness,ignorance and stupidity...

Educated people of the Gaeltacht see the spectre of ignorance and backwardness represented by the Gaeltacht and the Irish language and get as far away from it as possible when they come of age. Many of them remain scarred for life by their upbringing and never lose the spectre of the country spailpin and tinker.

Many Irish-speaking nurses develop an obsession with hygiene when they leave their unhealthy surroundings behind them in a blaze of fury to get over their early induction in life.

Let that be my message to Irish Irelanders who knows nothing of the Hidden Ireland so well described by Daniel Corkery and Walter Macken,a filthy,diseased backwoods Ireland.

The revival of the Irish language is only an escapist fantasy propagated by those who cultivate a world of illusion and backward ideas.

Irish language speaking distorts the classic forms of expression embodied in Shakespeare and Hiberno-English or Establishment prose,the latter best exemplified in BBC broadcasts.
