In December 1989,Tony Gregory,a man bad-mouthed by Communists,seeing my difficulty with serial evictions by landlords,arranged for me to have a large,wrecked flat at 358 Saint Teresa's Gardens,allocated to me as a tenant. The administration of public housing in Northern Ireland compares very well with the abandonment of public housing in the South and Britain. Emergency and non-emergency maintenance is handled very politely and efficiently by central and local offices.Cyclical maintenance is to a very high standard as is electrical and heating maintenance and there are few problems with routine maintenance. Truly,Sir Charles Brett and Sir Bob Cooper and Sir John Gorman have left a great,enduring legacy...  If there were a transition between Tenants Associations and Residents Associations and Groups to Community  Councils would there have been any need to demolish St. Teresa's Gardens or Fatima Mansions.Those flat complexes could have been saved from demolition and been utilised as military barracks for a Doomsday scenario.  There are countless advantages to public medicine in a general hospital setting. In a psychiatric hospital, everybody is assumed to be "suffering from some illness no doctor could define".  The psychiatric patient in Northern Ireland is assumed to be "mentally ill" and " must do what the doctor says" according to the incestuous reasoning and schizoaffective ideaisation. ....  The question of whether the railways should operate diesel trains or electrify the locomotives is really a non-starter...it is thirty years ago and more since I laid down the basis of the National Development Plan. That document from my pen was entitled the Programme of Irish Socialists. I called for the extension of suburban electric rail to all the suburbs of Dublin,the electrification of inter-city railways and a light railway for Dublin and short-haul buses (the Nipper). What now? Firstly,electrify national railways. Secondly,build the Western Road and Rail Orbital Route to open up the West. Thirdly,things have moved on-it is time for a tramway for Cork City.
